Boston Celtics’ GM Danny Ainge believes Ray Allen will continue to weigh his options and may not sign until midseason

Just about every contender would love to add the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made, Ray Allen.

The Miami Heat would love bring Allen back. The world champion San Antonio Spurs are interested and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the favorites to land him. The Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder are also in the mix. Allen, however, hasn’t committed to any team.

Allen’s former general manager with the Boston Celtics, Danny Ainge, believes Allen will keep his options open.

“Ray can really help them, but I anticipate that Ray will wait and see the landscape of the NBA,” Ainge, the Boston Celtics’ president of basketball operations, said during his weekly call-in to 98.5 the Sports Hub via A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England. “I just think he might wait and see how everybody’s clicking. There’s a handful of teams that would love to have Ray on their team right now that are trying to win a championship.”

Ainge believes he may wind up waiting until the All-Star break to sign.

“He may wait until All-Star break or January,” Ainge said. “And just see what teams are playing well, which teams are the healthiest and which team that he thinks that he might fit in, just in the style of play. With new coaches at some different places, he may just want to see how it unfolds before he makes a decision.”

Ray Allen was selected selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth-overall pick in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft and was dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks. He has also  played for the Seattle Supersonics (Oklahoma City Thunder) in addition to the Celtics and Heat.

Last season, Ray Allen averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 44.2% from the field, 37.5% from three and 90.5% from the free throw line. In his historic career, he has averaged 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 45.2% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc and 89.4% from the free throw line.
