Brian Hoyer says he will sign with a team that gives him the opportunity to play.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer has had a strong start to the 2014 NFL season. Hoyer has led Cleveland to three wins in its first five games and has thrown seven touchdowns to just one interception.

Hoyer’s strong play has been many talking about his future and wondering if he will be the Browns’ quarterback for years to come. However, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole has reported that Hoyer, who is a free agent after this season, won’t re-sign with the Browns if fellow quarterback Johnny Manziel remains on the roster.

Hoyer has now addressed those rumors to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com:

"His first answer was: “I don’t know who got that report. That’s something that I have an agent to handle and right now I’m focused on Jacksonville.”When asked a second time, he said, “I don’t think I need to say any more than I’m from Cleveland and this is where I want to be. But I also am a competitor, so I want to be somewhere where I’m playing.”"

The Browns will likely be forced to choose between Manziel or Hoyer this offseason. Manziel is too valuable of an asset to remain a backup quarterback and never receive an opportunity to start and Hoyer clearly has no interest in backing up Manziel, or anybody else.

The Browns signed Hoyer, now a six-year veteran, prior to the 2013 season. Cleveland selected Manziel in the first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
