While the Philadelphia Eagles unloaded on the New York Giants Sunday night, it wasn’t all good news in the City of Brotherly Love.

During the blowout victory, the Eagles were attempting to run the clock out with ace utility man Darren Sproles when he got smashed in a pile attempting to break through the front seven. It wasn’t the hit that was cause for concern but rather the resulting twisting of bodies as Darren Sproles’ leg got caught underneath him as he was bent backwards.

It was a scary sight and Sproles was understandably shaken up as he remained on the ground for a few minutes as Philadelphia Eagles trainers attended to him.

Darren Sproles immediately made his way to the locker room for testing which has revealed a ‘slight’ tear in his MCL.

Thankfully the slight tear, as noted above, won’t cost Darren Sproles a significant amount of time and the Eagles’ Week 7 bye couldn’t come at a more perfect time for Sproles.

It’s possible the Philadelphia Eagles could be very cautious with their punt returner/change of pace running back given his importance to the team and allow him an additional week of recovery time, though at this point that’s just pure speculation.

Regardless it seems to be disaster avoided for both the Eagles and Darren Sproles who should be back for the Eagles by Week 9, possibly Week 10 if they team opts to take the extreme caution route.

Sproles, on 32 rushes, is averaging 6.6 yards per carry this season.
