Might the Cleveland Cavaliers make a big NBA trade for Chase Budinger or Corey Brewer of the Minnesota Timberwolves?

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

The last thing the Cleveland Cavaliers need is another offensive weapon but they may find one courtesy of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Currently employing a roster overloaded with guard and wing players, the T’Wolves have been allegedly testing the trade market for some time and the Cleveland Cavaliers could be a willing partner if the price is right.

That’s the word from Grantland‘s Zach Lowe who hints the Cleveland Cavaliers could use their trade exception in such a deal.

"This is another numbers game. There are just too many bodies and too many young guys who need minutes. Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger are on trade-friendly contracts, and the Cavaliers will likely consider both with the Keith Bogans Memorial Trade Exception."

With LeBron James on the roster you wonder about the fit for Chase Budinger as he’d likely be nothing more than a role player at best. Even then you wonder if there’s enough playing time available unless the Cavs want to place Chase Budinger at the four spot which seems like a recipe for disaster.

Still he’d be a solid weapon off the bench, especially if the Cavaliers don’t end up signing Ray Allen who still apparently is undecided about a return to the NBA.

Budinger comes with a $5 million dollar player option for the 2015-16 season though his deal comes off the book at that point. Corey Brewer, who is also another potential trade target, has a nearly identical contract though his is only worth $4.9 million.

Neither are the big man the Cavaliers have so desperately been seeking, though they’d be a solid addition to an already stacked roster, especially considering they’re likely to cost nothing more than a trade exception.
