Jason Smith of the New York Knicks could prove to be the best big man on the roster.

Although the New York Knicks have Samuel Dalembert, Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani on their roster, might it be Jason Smith who emerges as the best big man on their roster this season?
It sounds a little silly on the surface given the name talent on the New York Knicks roster, but both Dalembert and Stoudemire are aging while Bargnani simply hasn’t proven himself to be very good. Given that, it seems as if the path is clear for Jason Smith to emerge for the New York Knicks as Zach Lowe of Grantland opines.
"Smith isn’t a great defender, but he’s miles better than the comedy duo of Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani. Smith has decent mobility against the pick-and-roll, and enough hops to offer rim protection as a helper."
The biggest plus for Jason Smith is that he knows his role and he isn’t a liability on the defensive end of the floor. That’s not something either Amare Stoudemire or Andrea Bargnani can say given their woeful track record on defense. In addition both Stoudemire and Bargnani believe they’re better and more effective on the offensive end of the floor than they actually are while Samuel Dalembert is nothing but a mop-up man with a sometimes effective hook shot within five-feet.
Needless to say the New York Knicks don’t have a ton of options at their power forward and center positions, so Jason Smith being the best on the roster may be nothing more than default praise. Still it’s praise nevertheless and assuming he can figure out the triangle, Jason Smith should get ample floor time for the New York Knicks this season.
That may not be as bad as it sounds, either.
