The San Francisco 49ers are awaiting the results of an MRI to be taken by linebacker Patrick Willis.

The team’s star linebacker claims he aggravated the toe ‘while chasing a play.’ After he exited the action, Willis could be spotted on the team’s sideline for the remainder of the game with a walking boot.
The 49ers will hold their collective breaths on this one as they cannot afford to lose another key piece to their defense this season. Willis, an 8 time pro-bowler has led the NFL in tackles over the past 6 seasons and current has 34 on the year to go along with 1 interception. The team is already without two of their other linebackers; Aldon Smith, who is serving a nine month suspension for several off field transgressions, and NaVorro Bowman, who suffered an ACL and MCL tear in the 2014 NFC championship game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Niners are currently 4-2 on the season, good enough for second place in the highly competitive NFC West. They already lost to the first place Arizona Cardinals in their first meeting a few weeks back. There is currently no time table on Willis’s return.
