Many have questioned how New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will translate to the triangle offense implemented by head coach Derek Fisher. The transition is difficult enough for the most basic of a player, but a star talent like Carmelo Anthony who’s used to having the ball in his hands?
Sounds like it could be a difficult change.
Not according to Joel Brigham of Basketball Insiders though who believes Carmelo Anthony is primed for a career year in the New York Knicks’ triangle.
"As for the Knicks, I think I see them in a similar situation. I could see them making the bottom end of the playoffs in the East. Career-year for Carmelo in the triangle, in my opinion. I think he’s going to have a strong season, and the Knicks won’t be as dismal as some are predicting."
If there’s a plus to the triangle offense it’s that Carmelo Anthony will no longer to entrench himself in the post for the New York Knicks as he’s done in the past. That’s not to say Anthony wasn’t effective in the post, but he’s a better player when he’s not posting up constantly.
The new offense will preach ball movement (something we haven’t seen much of in the past with the Knicks) which will force the ball out of Anthony’s hands though will also open up shots for him in addition to making him more of a facilitator.
Given that it’s within reason to believe Carmelo Anthony having a career season with the New York Knicks. His scoring numbers may not be as pretty but his defense could improve (thanks to the reduction of the offensive load) and his scoring could be much more efficient.
