Former NBA All-Star and Sacramento Kings icon Chris Webber has joined an ownership group looking to purchase the Atlanta Hawks.

More from Atlanta Hawks

When the Maloof Brothers put the Sacramento Kings up for sale, it was said that Chris Webber was interested in becoming part of an ownership group to purchase the Kings. Nothing ever manifested on that front though the former NBA All-Star may have a second chance with the Atlanta Hawks.

According to Yahoo Sports, Webber has joined forces with a group of prospective owners looking to purchase the Atlanta Hawks.

"Webber would have a modest financial investment in the partnership, but is expected to emerge as a face of the bid with an ultimate goal of becoming a prominent figure on the basketball side for the Hawks."

Chris Webber played for a handful of teams during his impressive NBA career though was most known for his stint with the Sacramento Kings whom he helped become one of the league’s premier franchises during their early 2000’s run.

As for his interest in the Hawks, C-Webb has had a home in the Atlanta area for years and has long had interest in purchasing a stake in an NBA franchise since he retired a few years back. Currently he is an analyst for TNT and in the past has done television work for NBATV though is clearly interested in becoming more hands on.

Current Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson has decided to sell the team after a racist e-mail was leaked, this after a racist scouting report on then free agent Luol Deng surfaced.

It is not known who Chris Webber is planning to team up with in effort to purchase the Atlanta Hawks though Yahoo Sports reported those names are expected to become public in the next few days.

Webber and company are expected to have significant competition in their effort to purchase the Hawks.
