Johnny Manziel was the king of Cleveland without ever taking a regular season snap this year, but his dip in jersey sales may be proof that Johnny Football’s magic appeal is wearing off.
Cleveland Browns fans bought up Johnny Manziel jerseys like a nobody’s business when the team drafted the Texas A&M star this past May. Since then, things have dramatically changed in Cleveland as Brian Hoyer has defied the odds and is making a very serious case that he’s the franchise quarterback the Browns need.

What this means is Manziel is playing second fiddle more so than he ever has in his entire football career. Many said it was when, not if Manziel would start this season but it’s now looking like things are reversed. Further evidence that the appeal of Johnny Manziel is wearing off is represented in his jersey sales.
According to DICK’s Jersey Report, the Browns backup quarterback has taken a hit in his sales and is now behind Brian Hoyer in weekly sales.

That’s a far cry from where Manziel was just a week ago, as he was being praised for carrying the Browns jersey sales since the draft. His numbers are still beefed up thanks to the surge his jersey sales took in the days following his being drafted by the Brown, but those numbers are leveling off.
Not only that, but Hoyer’s sales are taking off, which means if the Browns continue on this run they’re on, Manziel may meet Hoyer on his way down the sales charts and into jersey obscurity.
