Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart will apparently play this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

The source? NFL RB Jonathan Stewart, of course.

“Jonathan looked good. He had a good day. We’ll see how he is [Thursday], but he took the majority of the reps. He took all the reps that were slated for him as well” said Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera. “I’m excited to see him on the football field and hopefully there’s no residual [Thursday] and he’ll be ready to roll again at practice.”

The Panthers have had an up and down start to the 2014 NFL season. They currently sit at 3-2-1, still good enough for first in the wide open NFC South. On Sunday, the team will travel to Lambeau Field to take on the 4-2 Green Bay Packers.

Due to a knee injury, Stewart has not played since week 3, when he carried the ball 29 times for a total of 88 yards and a touchdown. The injury prone running back has played in only 15 games within the last two years with a slew of ankle and MCL issues.

This appears to be very good news for a team that has battled the injury bug with nearly its entirely core of backs. Fullback Mike Tolbert will not be eligible to return from a fractured knee until week 13, and RB DeAngelo Williams suffered a high ankle sprain in week 4 that has kept him sidelined since.

QB Cam Newton and TE Greg Olson had their ankles twisted by Cincinnati LB Vontaze Burfict last week too; actions which resulted in a $25,ooo fine and a warning for the latter. Burfict also gave WR Kelvin Benjamin a concussion on a hit that saw the former miss a team practice on Wednesday.
