The play of veteran quarterback and Ohio native Brian Hoyer was one reason why head coach Mike Pettine and the Browns have looked wise naming him the starter over Manziel who likely would have been overwhelmed and in over his head had he been thrust in to the starting lineup when the season began.
Manziel was not ready for the sophisticated offense the Browns run compared to the playbook he had for his two years as the starting quarterback for the Aggies, but now he feels heās ready to play because heās more comfortable with the offense.
"āI feel a lot more confident, a lot more comfortable,ā Manziel said Friday after practice, via the Akron Beacon Journal. āGetting into a new system, just getting around these guys, the whole process of being under center a lot more, everything thatās involved in this offense just wasnāt anything that I was asked to do really at [Texas] A&M. So I knew it would take me some time."

āNow going through these game plans and getting some of the same ideas spilling over into the next week, we have our certain game plan stuff throughout the week, so I feel like I can study that. Iām a lot more honed in on that. It just makes me a lot more comfortable.ā
The Browns are 3-2 on the season with wins in three of their last four games, including a 31-10 rout over AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, the two losses the Browns have this year are by a combined five points as Hoyer has seven touchdowns to only one interception and a quarterback rating that is .1 below Andrew Luck and ahead of notable quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Tom Brady.
