With LeBron James back with the Cleveland Cavaliers, one would assume that Dwyane Wade would again take over as the Miami Heat’s franchise player. No, he may not be such in terms of his on-court impact (that role may lay with Chris Bosh) but Wade is the heart and soul of the Miami Heat organization.
That’s why it’s a little odd to see him suggest that he’s not completely sure where he fits with the current roster as he admitted that he’s still trying to get used to the new look Heat.
“I’m still finding my way with this team and this offense,” he said, as the Heat prepare to play in their exhibition finale against the Houston Rockets. “So I’m still trying to see where I fit in. I know I can get a shot any time I want, but it’s about the quality of it more so than anything. I’m just playing the game and just seeing.”
Given James’ departure, the Miami Heat have installed a new offensive system and when combined with all the new blood on the roster, Dwyane Wade admits it’s been a challenge to understand the new concepts though appears excited about the new look.
“This early offense that we started in camp is more so to get our guys to better ball movement,” he said. “So now Coach is starting to get to the point where it’s time now to put in a package for C.B. [Chris Bosh] and myself, and it will kind of be what we do for the next week, week and a half.”
Wade previously stated that he didn’t really work on his perimeter game this offseason though does intend to shoot more three-point shots despite that. Hopefully that keeps the All-Star healthy and prolongs his career as the continued beating he takes in the paint has really put a damper on his troublesome legs.
