Jeremy Lin admits he was humbled by the trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers.

When the Houston Rockets acquired Jeremy Lin, the point guard believed he’d be a fixture with the organization for years to come.

That’s not how things turned out of course as Houston traded Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers this past offseason, a deal which humbled the star point guard.

“When I first got there [Houston], I was supposed to be the guy and they were supposed to kind of hand the torch to me. And I ended up getting traded away basically for nothing. Actually, they had to give a draft pick to convince someone else to take me. Pretty much given away for nothing. Definitely not how I envisioned it.”

While it may not be how Jeremy Lin pictured the scenario unfolding, it may prove to be the best career move as the point guard should be able to carve out significant minutes with the Los Angeles Lakers moving forward. He also happens to be playing in a walk year so if he is to have some success, he’ll likely be rewarded for it in free agency.

Still, as Lin points out, the Houston Rockets essentially paid the Los Angeles Lakers to trade for him which is a punch to the gut of the ego. Of course what’s done is done and now it’s up to Lin to prove the Houston Rockets wrong.

He couldn’t have landed in a much better scenario as not only will he get major minutes at the point guard slot but he’ll do so for the iconic Los Angeles Lakers. No, they aren’t likely to battle for a playoff spot but he’ll certainly get plenty of attention playing in Hollywood and his skill set should work well with the pick-and-roll big men on the roster.
