Denver Broncos’ quarterback Peyton Manning hit Wes Welker for 39 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of their Sunday Night Football game with the San Francisco 49ers. It was Manning’s second touchdown of the night, giving him 508 for his career.
The pass ties Manning with former long time gunslinger Brett Favre for first in NFL history.
Manning is now in his 17th NFL season. A former Superbowl MVP, he is also the only 5 time regular season MVP in league history. Interestingly enough, Favre is the only other player with at least 3 such awards.
It has been an interesting road to the record as 3 years ago, Manning went through 4 separate neck surgeries which had cast doubt into his NFL future. There were questions about his arm strength and his composure. He has since rebounded, with a new team no less, to guide the Broncos to an AFC championship and 13 wins in each of his first two seasons.
The Broncos currently lead the 49ers 14-0. The Niners head into this game 4-2, in second place in the NFC West. Denver is currently 4-1 on the year and is in second place in the AFC West.
