When the Seattle Seahawks acquired Percy Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings a few seasons back they expected the dynamic wideout to be the star so many believed he could become. Alas that didn’t happen as not only did Harvin struggle on the field but he was oft injured and may have been a disturbance in the locker room.

That lead to the Seahawks parting ways with Harvin in a trade to the New York Jets on Friday afternoon which should open up opportunities for others on the Seattle roster. That includes former Alabama star Kevin Norwood who could stand to benefit from Harvin’s departure.

"The surprising trade of Percy Harvin on Friday figures to mean the Seahawks will seek to integrate 2014 draft picks Paul Richardson and Kevin Norwood into the offense to fill the void in receiving production. Norwood, a fourth-rounder from Alabama, has yet to play after having foot surgery during training camp. He is now healthy."

Norwood of course put up some impressive numbers during his time at Alabama and could find himself playing a significant role for the Seahawks moving forward if everything is to go his way. It’s not as if the Seahawks have an elite core of wide receivers so there is plenty of opportunity for one of Seattle’s young wideouts to emerge as a threat for the remainder of the season.

Head coach Pete Carroll praised Kevin Norwood recently for his practice habits and suggested there was a strong likelihood he would be active for Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams.

How much he’ll be used remains to be seen though he could carve out a role moving forward if he continues his strong play in practice.
