Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson is hopeful to return to the lineup in four weeks after suffering a groin strain.

The Buffalo Bills went into Sunday’s tilt with both Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller on the active roster. They’ll enter Week 8 without either as both suffered injuries in their one-point victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

Both Jackson and Spiller were carted off the field though the news was much more positive for Jackson who will return at some point this season. The same can’t be said for Spiller who was ruled out for the rest of the season while Fred Jackson has been give a four-week timetable for his return.

For what it’s worth, Fred Jackson says he’s going to do what he can to beat the initial recovery timetable though soft tissue injuries aren’t exactly easy to come back from, especially for a running back. Given that it seems like wishful thinking to believe Fred Jackson would be back before his originally scheduled return date let alone be effective in such a role. The last thing the Buffalo Bills want is to bring Jackson back before he’s ready only to have him re-aggravate the groin strain.

With both Jackson and Spiller now out for the count it appears as if Bryce Brown will get the vast majority of the Buffalo Bills carries with Anthony Dixon filling in as the change-of-pace runner.

Hopefully the four weeks on the sideline will allow Fred Jackson to fully heal and he’ll be back for a late season playoff push.

Buffalo currently sits at 4-3, one game behind the division leading New England Patriots.
