Kevin Durant says he will take his time recovering from his recent foot injury.

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant had surgery on his right foot Thursday after a Jones fracture and the original timetable for his return was 6-8 weeks after surgery.

Don’t expect to see Durant back any sooner than that timetable suggests, as the forward told ESPN on Tuesday that he does not plan to rush back from the injury.

"“I’m not going to rush it all. That’s the one thing I don’t want to do,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll feel better in two or three weeks, but definitely don’t want to rush it and wind up hurting it even more. I’m taking my time with it. I’m just blessed it happened early in the season where I can get past it, and hopefully by December I’ll be ready to play.”"

It certainly makes sense for Durant to take the appropriate time to get healthy. The Thunder can’t risk him rushing back and either re-injuring himself or not playing at the level he’s accustomed too.

Oklahoma City might not be among the league’s elite without Durant, but they’ll still play fine basketball with Russell Westbrook leading the way. It’s not as if this team can’t survive without KD and needs him back as soon as possible to make the postseason.

Simply put, Durant appears to be taking the best possible approach he could with his recovery.

Durant averaged 32.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game en route to his first MVP award this past season.
