The Minnesota Twins had allowed Ron Gardenhire to become one of the longest tenured MLB managers, after letting him go, his replacement looks to come from his former staff.

have had a coaching vacancy since immediately following yet another 90 loss season. Terry Ryan handed Ron Gardenhire his walking papers (well sort of, he was offered another job within the organization) and the search began. One of the favorites from the get go was infield coach Paul Molitor.

It now appears that the Minnesota Twins are indeed going to make a formal offer to Molitor. Today, general manager Terry Ryan and Paul Molitor are meeting for a second time, the first of any candidate to have the privilege.

Local radio station personality, Paul “Meat Sauce” Lambert, is reporting that Molitor will be offered the job.

To be fair, Lambert has been saying that he believed this would be the outcome for the last couple of weeks, but the new report suggests information to corroborate his belief.

It is still somewhat hard to believe that, although on a sports news station in KFAN, a comedian is breaking sports news. At any rate, Molitor to the Twins has been somewhat of a foregone conclusion all along.

Paul Molitor was brought onto the Twins staff in order to further integrate him with the organization, a former player, the Twins seemingly wanted to have the first crack at him when them time to move on from Gardenhire had come. Also, Molitor is seen by many around the organization and baseball as a brilliant mind.

Terry Ryan urged Twins fans that the search would be extensive and exhaustive, but based on how things played out, it’s tough to think that any of the other candidates, especially those outside of the organization, were anything but public relations fodder.

Look for the official announcement to be made sometime in the next few days. The Twins have to run it by Major League Baseball, as there are certain time frames in which things can be announced during the World Series.
