Both teams face the prospect of coming back from a lengthy layoff for Game 1 of the World Series. The Royals have been off for five days and the Giants have been off for four days. “It affects a bit with your timing, especially when trying to adjust to pitchers,” Royals’ second baseman Omar Infante said of the wait, via ESPN.com. “It’s hard to recover that groove you have.”

The Giants and the Royals will have to try to rediscover that grove against their opponents’ ace starting pitcher. Madison Bumgarner will start Game 1 for San Francisco opposite James Shields for Kansas City.
