The Kansas City Royals entered Game 1 of the World Series with all of the momentum they could ask for and with the chance to play in front of a rowdy fan base at Kauffman Stadium. They entered the game 8-0 in the postseason.
One 7-1 loss to the Giants and Madison Bumgarner later, and now people are questioning if the ride is over for the Royals. Manager Ned Yost says not to fret and that this does not signal the end of their momentum. As quoted by MLB.com:
"“We didn’t expect to come in here and sweep the San Francisco Giants. We knew that this was a series that was going to go deep. We know how tough they are.”"
A key question for Ned Yost and the Royals in the World Series was what they would look like if they were not playing with a lead. Their formula for success works like a charm when they have a lead, something that was on display in the ALDS and ALCS. Will they be able to get things back on track to make it a six-inning affair in Game 2? If not, will they be able to mount a comeback to win and even up the series?
Those are the questions as they try to rebound on Wednesday night. Yordano Ventura will be on the mound for the Royals opposite Jake Peavy for the Giants.
