On Saturday, Luis Suarez will make his debut for
against
and claims he is on the ‘right path’ after seeking help to cure his impulse of biting people.
According to Jacob Steinberg, Suarez like the direction he is heading:
"“I think all the bad things I have been through are in the past,” Suárez said. “I believe I am on the right path now, dealing with the people who can help me, the right kind of people.Everyone has different ways of defending themselves. In my case, the pressure and tension came out in that way. There are other players who react by breaking someone’s leg, or smashing someone’s nose across their face. What happened with Chiellini is seen as worse. I understand why biting is seen so badly.”"
Check out this story with videos of Suarez’s biting escapades.
Suarez bit Italian Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy in the 2014 World Cup. FIFA banned Suarez from all ‘football-related activity’ and he missed his country’s loss to Colombia.
Barcelona purchased Suarez from Liverpool for 75 million euros, but the 27-year old hasn’t seen any competitive soccer action since June.
Suarez and his Barcelona teammates will face Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid in a marquee matchup Saturday.
The incident in the World Cup wasn’t Suarez’s first.
In 2010, while playing for the Dutch club Ajax, he bit the neck of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakka and received a seven-game ban.
While playing for Liverpool in 2013, Suarez had an incident with Branislav Ivanovic of Chelsea in which Suarez bit his arm. He wasn’t immediately removed and ended up scoring the game-tying goal in extra time. Suarez was fined by his team.
It’s only fitting that Suarez will be back to help his club in the biggest soccer match since the World Cup on Saturday.
