You may recall last year Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Amobi Okoye was diagnosed with anti-NDMA receptor encephalitis which resulted in the defensive talent being placed in a medically-induced coma for three months.
Understandably the likelihood of Amobi Okoye playing in the NFL again was questionable at best with the obvious pressing issue being his health and how the diagnosis would alter the rest of his life.
Though shockingly just five months after Okoye was placed in that coma he was cleared for football activities again giving the young man hope that he could eventually return to the field.
It’s been a challenge since that time though Okoye has fought hard and has now practiced for the first time since being diagnosed with the potentially deadly brain condition.
Amobi Okoye seemed happy to get back to football though did admit to some different feelings.
“It was good, it was worth it. It was mixed emotions. It felt like it naturally was coming back. I’ve played six years in the league [and], it doesn’t take too long for stuff to come back to you.”
As far as actually seeing game action, it’s unknown if Amobi Okoye will play this season. The Dallas Cowboys will keep him on the reserve/non-football list for another three weeks before deciding if they want to activate him.
For now he’ll continue to get himself back in game shape in hopes of getting back on the gridiron before the season comes to an end. Okoye plans to address the media regarding his condition and what he went through come the Dallas Cowboys’ bye week in November.
