The
‘s deadline to sign players selected in the 2011 NBA Draft is Friday, October 31.
Several players, including Cleveland Cavaliers‘ point guard Kyrie Irving, Denver Nuggets‘ power forward Kenneth Faried and Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic have already been locked up to lengthy, hefty extensions.
The Minnesota Timberwolves would love to do the same with point guard Ricky Rubio. After being forced to trade power forward Kevin Love to the Cavaliers, they don’t want to lose their most popular player (although Andrew Wiggins may take that title sooner rather than later). Ricky Rubio is said to be looking for a five-year max deal but the Timberwolves won’t go anywhere near a number like that and are instead hoping to sign Rubio to a deal worth about $48 million over four years.
According to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and AM 1500 ESPN Radio, a four-year, $48 million deal won’t get it done.
Eventually, the two sides will likely come to terms but don’t expect that to happen until next summer.
Ricky Rubio was originally selected with the fifth-overall selection in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft. Ricky Rubio finally left Spain for the NBA in 2011.

Ricky Rubio has gone for 10.1 points, 8.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 36.8% from the floor, 32.3% from three and 80.1% from the foul line in his three NBA seasons.
