were appreciative.

The Jets turned the ball over six times Sunday at MetLife Stadium, leading to 20 points for the Bills. Buffalo handed Gang Green its seventh consecutive loss, 43-23.

Geno Smith didn’t make it to the end of the first quarter before he was yanked in favor of Michael Vick after Smith threw his third interception in just eight attempts.

Smith completed more passes to Buffalo defenders (three) than he did to Jets receivers (two). He was 2-for-8 for five yards and the three picks.

Here is Smith’s day wrapped up in one glance:

New York falls to 1-7, while Buffalo improved to 5-3—the first time since 2011 the Bills have been better than .500 at the mid-point of the season.

The Bills will be hoping for better than the 1-7 finish they had to close the 2011 campaign.

For all the miscues, the Jets did make a bit of a comeback late in the first half. Buffalo went up 24-7, getting a 22-yard touchdown from Kyle Orton to Robert Woods, a 1-yard TD toss from Orton to Lee Smith, a 2-yard run by Frank Summers and a 53-yard field goal from Dan Carpenter.

The Jets made it 24-14 with 1:50 to go in the half on Chris Ivory’s second 2-yard touchdown run and forced a quick three-and-out, getting the ball back at their own 42 with 33 seconds left. Vick hit Chris Johnson for 12 yards and after a spike connected with Jeremy Kerley for nine yards.

That was enough for Nick Folk, who banged home a 55-yard field goal as the clock expired to end the half.

But Buffalo pulled away after halftime. Carpenter had two more field goals in the third quarter, one set up by a Vick fumble, and it was 30-17 at the end of three periods.

Orton threw his third touchdown pass to tight end Scott Chandler early in the fourth quarter, a 12-yard strike after another Vick fumble, and later connected with rookie Sammy Watkins for a 61-yard score that made it 43-17.

Vick fumbled the ball four times, losing two, and also threw an interception.

The Jets got a late score from Bilal Powell on a 3-yard run, but the two-point try was unsuccessful.

How poorly are things going for the Jets? Their fans are doing things like this:

Orton’s numbers were gaudy—10-for-17 for 238 yards and four touchdowns—just the second four-TD game of his career and the first since Nov. 14, 2010, when he was with the Denver Broncos.

Watkins finished with three receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown.

Vick, in relief, was 18-for-36 for 153 yards and ran eight times for 69 yards.

Buffalo goes into its bye week a game behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East and will be back on Nov. 9 when they host the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Jets visit the Chiefs next Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
