Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles isn’t likely to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8.

After Darren Sproles suffered a mild MCL injury for the Philadelphia Eagles a few weeks back, the team didn’t expect to see him back on the field for about a month. There was hope that he could return sooner though that’s not the belief of Chris Mortensen of ESPN who does not expect Sproles to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Sproles suffered the injury on a late game run which saw his leg get bent backwards in a pile. Ironically the camera was focused on Sproles’ face at the conclusion of the play and the running back could be seen wincing in pain before eventually falling out of the tackles.

He was immediately escorted to the locker room and did not return.

Even if Darren Sproles is to see the field, it’s not believed he will play a major role which is why some (including Mort) believe the Philadelphia Eagles will keep the versatile running back off the field allowing him yet another week of recovery time.

That’s probably the smartest move for the Philadelphia Eagles as they currently sit at 5-1 and have wiggle room to give Sproles more recovery time.

Darren Sproles last played in Week 6 though has been used more as a decoy if anything this season as he has only amassed 22 touches since Week 3 (last week was a bye). That’s not exactly how most (including Sproles) likely envisioned his role with the Philadelphia Eagles but with a 5-1 record on their side, it’s hard to argue with what the team is doing.

If Sproles does not play it’s not known what his status will be for Week 9, though you’d have to think another week of recovery will only do him well.
