In terms of star talent, nobody will question the Houston Rockets who have both Dwight Howard and James Harden on the roster. But past both All-Star’s, there are significant questions regarding the remainder of the Houston roster, especially off the bench.
Hoping to sign a big name free agent (or two) this past offseason, the Houston Rockets rolled the dice and moved a significant amount of salary.
Gone was Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons. Yes, the Houston Rockets did what they could to replace the depth they lost but Sam Amico of Fox Sports wonders if the team simply lost too much in free agency.
It’s a reasonable question to ask given the amount of time and role each player dedicated to the Rockets in the past, though the addition of Trevor Ariza along with the growth on the roster should be able to help the team soften the blow.
One other issue pressing the Houston Rockets is the lack of defense played by James Harden though the All-Star says he’s committed to being a better defense player this season after the team reportedly asked him to dedicate himself to the craft.
Assuming Harden does improve his defense, that too could help the Houston Rockets from falling out of the playoff picture though it won’t be easy.
The NBA’s Western Conference is incredibly deep and it’s very possible that a 50-win season may have you battling for the final playoff spot, so the Houston Rockets have plenty ahead of them if they’re to return to the postseason.
If they can get their bench to step up, clinching such should be within the realm of possibility. If they don’t however, it could be a long season in Clutch City.
