Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer wants his franchise to become the NBA‘s version of the Seattle Seahawks.

More from Los Angeles Clippers

When you think of the Los Angeles Clippers, outside of the past few seasons you think of a woeful franchise who had become the redheaded step-child of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Things have changed in Southern California though as not only have the Clippers become one of the best teams in the NBA but they also have a billionaire owner who wants to make the Clippers the premier franchise in Los Angeles.

That of course won’t be easy given the rich history of the Lakers though Steve Ballmer is going to do what he can to make it a reality, though understands he’ll need help from the Los Angeles Clippers fan base.

“We want better energy. I do. The players do. Doc [Rivers] does. Everybody does,” Ballmer said. “More. Better. We would love to be known for the most energetic fans in the NBA.”

In short, Ballmer who is a Washington native wants the Los Angeles Clippers fans to become the NBA’s version of the Seattle Seahawks fans.

Granted, an NFL game usually brings in 60,000 to 70,000 spectators while an NBA game is lucky to break 20,000, so from a sound standpoint that simply isn’t going to happen. NBA fans don’t usually get as wild as NFL fans either though we’ve seen franchises like the Sacramento Kings break sound records so it’s possible to have an elite fan base in the NBA.

Of course many Southern California franchises are often referred to as having ‘fair weather fans’ though as long as the Los Angeles Clippers continue to win, they’ll have no problem keeping the turnstiles moving. Steve Ballmer will make sure of it.
