How much trouble is New Orleans in?

With the Saints taking on the Green Bay Packers, there’s a good chance they can end up ending the day a shocking 2-5.

Not only is the defense a hot mess, the offense has not been as effective as it normally is. We talk a lot about how this is a passing league, an offensive league, and a quarterback league but ultimately if you have a terrible defense, even a good offense might not be enough to keep a team above .500.

Drew Brees is having a bad season protecting the football, having thrown seven interceptions compared to 11 touchdowns. Normally Brees bails out the Saints, but not this year. The fact that the defense is struggling makes that worse.

The Carolina Panthers aren’t exactly running away with the NFC South, if Brees and the Saints can’t turn things around, even a mediocre Panthers team is going to beat them in the division.
