Patrice Bergeron scores 500 NHL points with Boston Bruins

On Saturday night, Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron notched his 500th (and his 501st) NHL career point in the team’s 4-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He would be one of two players to hit this milestone over the weekend, as Patrick Kane recorded his 500th NHL point as well in the Chicago Blackhawks‘ victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Bergeron, 29, has been with the Boston Bruins for his entire NHL career. The Quebec native was drafted in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, although the Bruins would quickly recognize the value in his effective two-way game and trade away then-captain Joe Thornton in order to rebuild the team around Bergeron instead.

Bergeron, who currently serves as the team’s alternate captain on the infamous second line for the Bruins, is highly regarded as one of the league’s top players and two-way forwards. He has won the Selke Trophy (awarded to the league’s most defensively competent forward) twice during his eleven-year NHL career and in 2011 helped lead the team to its first Stanley Cup victory since 1972.

He gained notoriety throughout the league during the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, when he played in the finals with a broken nose, separated shoulder, and punctured lung. He is a member of the “Triple Gold Club”, meaning he has won a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold, and World Championship Gold.

Congratulations, Bergy. The milestone is well earned.
