It started out great for the St. Louis Rams, who scored a touchdown on the first drive of the game when quarterback Austin Davis found tight end Lance Kendricks for a touchdown pass from the goal line and taking a 7-0 lead. That’s as good as it got for the Rams, who gave up 34-straight points to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
The first quarter ended with St. Louis up 7-0 before Jamaal Charles punched it in from the goal line to tie the game.
With a second left, Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos nailed a 53-yard field goal to give Kansas City a 10-7 lead going into halftime.
Then Chiefs running back Knile Davis took the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
Santos made a 28-yarder to give the Chiefs a 20-7 lead at the end of three. The Kansas City running backs Charles and Davis each scored in the fourth quarter, Charles on a 36 yard run and Davis on a three-yard run with 6:28 left. Kansas City took that 34-7 lead to the end of the game.
The Chiefs dominated time of possession with a solid running game and efficient passing game, handling the ball for 35:38–more than 10 minutes more than the Rams had possession. Smith completed 24 of 28 passes for 226 yards. Charles had 73 yards on 13 carries and Davis had 49 yards on 16 carries.
The Chiefs improve to 4-3 and the Rams drop to 2-5.
