While Mookie Blaylock may not have been a household name, the former NBA point guard had a very solid career after being selected by the New Jersey (now Brooklyn) Nets with the 12th overall pick in the 1989 draft.

Now the guard who spent 13 years in the NBA will spend the next few in prison after he pleaded guilty to a car crash in Atlanta that killed a mother of five.

Blaylock, who had been undergoing treatment for seizures at the time was ordered not to drive by a doctor but decided to do so anyway. It’s not known if Mookie Blaylock suffered had suffered or was suffering a seizure at the time of the crash, though rather than face a jury the NBA veteran opted to take a plea deal.

"Mookie Blaylock was sentenced to 15 years for vehicular homicide and other charges in the death of Monica Murphy in a head-on collision in Clayton County on May 31, 2013. According to the plea deal, the term was reduced to seven years — suspended after three — and eight years’ probation."

A former star at Oklahoma, Blaylock made the 1994 NBA All-Star team and was named to six All-NBA Defensive Teams (two first-team, four second-team). In addition, Blaylock also lead the NBA in steals twice during his 13 year career.

Blaylock played for the aforementioned Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors before hanging up his sneakers for good in 2002. He has previously had his No. 10 jersey honored by the University of Oklahoma. His best season came in 1994-95 as a member of the Hawks were he averaged 17 points and nearly 8 assists per game.
