New York Jets coach Rex Ryan explains the botched ‘Camouflage’ return against the Buffalo Bills.

If you were watching the New York Jets game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, first let me issue my apologies as you are likely still recovering from that horrific event.

But if you were, you probably noticed a rather odd play in the third quarter on a kick return.

Everything looked relatively normal and Percy Harvin, the newest New York Jets player pushed his heels to the back of the end zone to field the kick. That’s when things became really strange as the wide receiver/return man decided to bring the ball out a good 9-yards deep.

What the hell was he doing? What you might not have noticed was a New York Jets player laying down in the end zone completely across the field from Percy Harvin.

The team was attempting to run the famed ‘Camouflage’ return made famous by TCU in which a player lays down in the end zone in hopes that his jersey will blend in with the paint and nobody will see him. Then the returner, Percy Harvin would throw him the ball with a wide open field in front of him.

Of course in typical New York Jets fashion, things didn’t work out that way.

“That was on me,” said Rex Ryan after the game. “I was just trying to give us a spark. With the way Percy was returning the ball, I thought everyone would attack him and not think about a throwback. I think they did an outstanding job of playing it. Percy was heads-up enough to not throw it over there.”

It actually wasn’t that bad of an idea as many didn’t even see the Jets player laying down, though being it didn’t work out and the Jets were getting plastered, obviously Rex Ryan is going to hear all about the botched play/
