Zimmer has had an injury-wrecked 2014 season, pitching only 4.2 innings in the regular season and he
his second AFL start after an inning due to shoulder discomfort. The Royals initially
Zimmer would need major shoulder surgery, which could have caused the 23-year old to miss most of the 2015 season. Two lost development years could have been brutal for both Zimmer and the Royals, so even scope surgery is good news in comparison to shoulder surgery.
Zimmer hasn’t been pitching for very long, which could potentially explain some of his injury issues, but if he’s able to rest this offseason and pitch in 2015, his previous injuries will likely be water under the bridge, as he’s believed to have front-of-the-rotation potential as a starting pitcher.
