Bumgarner hasn’t made a relief appearance since throwing two scoreless innings in Game 6 of the 2010 National League Championship Series.
The Giants will start Jake Peavy against the Royals in Game 6. Bumgarner thinks that Peavy will perform very well and help the Giants lock up their third World Series title in the last five years. Bumgarner expects to watch some of the game from the bullpen just in case.
“Well, I expect Jake Peavy to throw a shutout,” Bumgarner told CSNBayArea.com. “That’s what I expect. But we’ll be ready for anything.”
While Madison Bumgarner will only be on one day’s rest after throwing 117 pitches, manager Bruce Bochy may still consider playing him according to CSN Bay Area.
“He really bounces back well, and we wouldn’t ask him to do a lot. But if I needed to get an out or something, I’m sure he’ll say he’s available,” Bochy said.
Madison Bumgarner, 25, has been lights out in the month of October during playoff baseball this yewr with a 1.13 ERA in six playoff starts. He has also dominated in game one of the series when the Giants beat the Royals 7-1. Bumgarner, to date, has been one of the best World Series pitchers of all time according to ESPN Stats and Info as he has posted the lowest World Series ERA at 0.29 in the last five years.
It’s doubtful that Madison Bumgarner will get the call to pitch at all on one day’s rest, but if the Giants find themselves desperate enough, we could see anything.
