The Detroit Lions have done pretty well without star receiver Calvin Johnson, but that doesn’t mean they won’t welcome his return with open arms. If Johnson’s words are to be taken at face value, they won’t have to wait long. Once the team rests in Week 9 for its bye week, Johnson expects to be ready for their Week 10 game at home against the Miami Dolphins.
This is fantastic news for the surging Lions, who went 3-0 while Johnson sat to recover from an ankle injury. The defense remains dominant and the offense found an identity in Johnson’s absence thanks to the emergence of Golden Tate. With two legitimate receiving threats along the sideline and rookie tight end Eric Ebron in the middle, the Lions could make a serious run to remain atop the NFC North come playoff time.
After the Lions host the Dolphins, they will move on to a tough two-game set of road games at the Arizona Cardinals, then the New England Patriots before settling in with an easier schedule the rest of the way. With Johnson back in tow, look out for the Lions in the NFC.
