Could Jeremy Lin become the Los Angeles Lakers‘ second option behind Kobe Bryant?

More from Los Angeles Lakers

Things couldn’t have went worse for the Los Angeles Lakers in their season debut as not only did they get dusted by the Houston Rockets at home, they also lost promising rookie Julius Randle to a broken leg.

To make matters worse some of their veteran talent, like point guard Jeremy Lin, tossed up a dud of a game.

Still Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders doesn’t believe that one poor game spells out what’s to come for Jeremy Lin for the remainder of the season, suggesting the point guard could step up and be the Los Angeles Lakers second option behind Kobe Bryant.

"As we saw from the Lakers last night, this team needs someone to step up and be that second option alongside Kobe Bryant. Jeremy Lin may be able to be that person. This is an amazing opportunity for him in a contract year, as you mentioned, and I think he’ll do well."

Outside of a few rouge games in the Big Apple with the New York Knicks, we haven’t really seen Jeremy Lin emerge as a scoring threat during his short stint in the NBA. Of course he hasn’t exactly been given the opportunity to be much of a scorer since his days with the Knicks, so could Lin actually step up and be that player?

While Jeremy Lin may be counted on for some big shots it’s possible he’s more important to the team as a distributor as few players on the roster outside of Bryant and the injured Nick Young have the ability to create their own shot.

Still it seems as if Jeremy Lin is primed for a big season with the Lakers despite a sloppy start to the year.
