A New Orleans sports talk station recently started a Twitter hashtag campaign to save the job of Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith, who has been rumored to be on his way out amid another rough year for the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons are in free-fall mode and New Orleans Saints fans aren’t about to let them off the hook. In fact, Saints fans are rallying to keep Falcons coach Mike Smith right where he is amid rumors that Smith is on his way out.

This is how you know your team has hit a new low. Rival fans are rooting for your team’s current staff to remain in position. The movement started with a New Orleans sports talk radio show starting a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #SaveSmitty. It quickly caught on and built from there.

Something tells us these guys don’t have the same legacy in mind as did Falcons owner Arthur Blank when he opted to keep Smith and his staff on after the Falcons finished 4-12 last season. Saints fans were apparently thrilled by Blank’s decision and after the Falcons dropped their fifth straight game in London, they decided to creatively rub salt in the wounds of Falcons fans all over.

The Atlanta Falcons will have to bide their time until Week 16 when they visit the Saints and have a chance to at least play spoilers to their playoff hopes. For now anyways, it looks like the Falcons have no such aspirations.
