Tennessee Titans

Current Record: 2-6 The NFL panic meter in Tennessee has been pushed up to the maximum. The Titans thought they’d hired their next captain, but now they have to be worried that the ship is sinking.  The Titans are in the first year of the Ken Whisenhunt era, and it is already becoming clear that Tennessee made a mistake hiring the retread from from Arizona. The Titans have taken a major step backwards this season, and this was a team that was expected to be greatly improved.  Making matters worse is that it is clear that Whisenhunt didn’t learn anything from his mistakes with the Cardinals. He has already reduced Tennessee’s quarterback situation into a carousel of awfulness that got him fired in Arizona. Whisenhunt has all but run starter Jake Locker out of town, and replaced him with sixth round pick Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger does have some talent, but this entire situation is eerily similar Whisenhunt’s flirtations with the likes of Max Hall and Ryan Lindley. There are also the rumor that Locker went from a full participant in practice to being placed on injured reserve simply because of the he and Whisenhunt had an argument.

There is no Super Bowl winning quarterback that is going to walk into the team headquarters and save them the way Kurt Warner did in for Whisenhunt with the Cardinals. This team is going to have to draft and develop their next franchise quarterback, and no one should have any faith that Whisenhunt is capable of doing that.  The Titans are a team with reasonable levels of talent on both sides of the ball. They should be a team that is competing for a wild card spot in the playoffs, especially given the weakness of the rest of their division.  It wouldn’t be completely unprecedented for a coach to be fired after just one season. The Cleveland Browns fired Rob Chudzinski after only one season in 2013. The Seattle Seahawks fired Jim Mora after only one season in 2009. Considering Seattle won a Super Bowl four years later, letting Mora go seems to have work out alright.  The Titans need to admit to their mistake before more seasons are lost due to Ken Whisenhunt’s poor coaching.
