The relationship between the Utah Jazz and big man Enes Kanter could be coming to an end after the current season as the center, who was eligible for a contract extension will not sign one with the team.

According to Yahoo Sports, both the Jazz and Enes Kanter both decided that signing an extension before the October 31st deadline was not a deal they wanted to do.

“We have mutually agreed with Utah to concentrate on the season and look at our options again in the summer,” Kanter’s agent Max Ergul said. “Enes likes Utah and the organization very much, and now he can concentrate on continuing to grow as a player and helping them win.”

A three-year veteran embarking on his fourth season, Enes Kanter took a few seasons to finally come into his own though put up solid numbers last season where he averaged 12 points and 7.5 rebounds off the bench.

Of course the Utah Jazz don’t want to over extend themselves and possibly feel that allowing Kanter to enter restricted free agency will be their best move going forward. In such a scenario the Jazz will have the right to match any contract Enes Kanter accepts. Often teams will allow restricted free agents who feel they deserve more money to hit restricted free agency so the market will set itself.

If Kanter doesn’t sign any offers in restricted free agency nor agree on a new contract with the Utah Jazz he would be eligible to sign a one-year qualifying offer allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent come 2016.

Kanter was the third overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz.
