NBA players will often do a number of things when they want the ball. Some will yell and shout while others may clap their hands or stomp their feet.
Not Kobe Bryant as the Los Angeles Lakers star allegedly hisses when he wants the ball, perhaps in tribute to his nickname the ‘Black Mamba’.
Speaking on the Dan Patrick Show, Los Angeles Clippers guard J.J. Redick who has been matched up against Kobe Bryant plenty of times stated that the NBA icon will make a hissing sound when he wants the ball.
“That was back when he would do his little – hiss, hiss, hiss – when he wanted the ball. Like a snake.”
Dan Patrick appeared shocked by the revelation before Reddick confirmed that’s the way Bryant would call for the rock.
This of course isn’t the first time a player opposing Bryant has suggested such as Jordan Crawford also echoed a similar statement a few years back.
"When I first played with Kobe—they call him the Black Mamba—but then he was doing like a little snake sound when he wanted the ball. It was crazy. It was crazy. It’s like tsssss, tsssss. Like fishing. Tsssss, tssss. He do that. Everybody tells you he’s gonna do it before you play him—like, ‘Wait till you hear him do this.’ And then he [does] it, and it’s like, what? He’s really a mamba. It sounds like some kind of snake."
So how true is it all? Funny enough, very as Kobe Bryant has long confirmed the rumor on social media.
Playing against Kobe Bryant is terrifying enough, even if he’s not the player he once was. But playing against Kobe Bryant while he’s hissing at you? Horrifying.
