While every NFL franchise has a special place in their heart for the armed forces, the Arizona Cardinals have a special bond.
It was former All-Pro safety Pat Tillman, who played for the Cardinals from 1998 to 2001 before deciding to leave at the height of his career and enlist in the United States Army.
Tillman of course lost his life during a reported gun battle in Afghanistan and the team has since honored their late player with a #40 decal on the back of their helmet.
Today alongside the Tillman decal will be the NFL’s “Salute to Service” logo as the franchise wants to honor every branch of the military.

During October the NFL and every team honored breast cancer and wore pink in support. Today though that changes to honoring past and current members of the service.
It’s a very cool honor and nice to see the NFL and the Arizona Cardinals paying tribute to them. They of course aren’t the only hero’s that deserve recognition like first responders who also are worthy of such praise, but that’s not something the NFL has opted to do yet.
Still, applause for honoring the incredibly deserving military.
