On Saturday night the Los Angeles Lakers fell to 0-4 for the first time in their storied franchise history. Kobe Bryant understandably didn’t want to talk about their recent woes, wanting little to do with the postgame interviews. He did however have some praise for Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.
Just days after signing a maximum level contract extension, Thompson lit up the Lakers for 41 points and understandably impressed Bryant.
It wasn’t just his on-court ability that had Kobe Bryant in awe but rather his desire to be great.
Bryant, who is known for his tireless work ethic and effort, recounted a story last season when late in the night after a game against the Golden State Warriors he decided to hit the weight room. Given the time of night, there was nobody else in the room – or so Bryant thought. That’s when he saw Klay Thompson putting in work.
Kobe on Klay: "It was late at night, and I went to the gym and lifted weights. I was in there by myself. I thought I was."

Kobe on Klay: "I judge a player by that type of stuff."

Kobe Bryant has of course known Klay Thompson for quite some time given Klay’s father, Mychal Thompson has close ties to the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. Bryant even spoke with a young Klay Thompson back in the day about life in the NBA. Still, even if there’s a little bias or not there’s no denying Klay Thompson is quickly emerging as one of the best players in the league.
It’s not easy to impress Kobe Bryant but it seems as if Klay’s one of the lucky few to do so.
