Although the Minnesota Vikings may lack some big names on the defensive side of the ball that doesn’t mean they’re not a competent defense.
In fact they’ve proven themselves to be one of the better units through the first half of the NFL season and despite a slow start to the afternoon have come around against the Washington Redskins.
That includes some bone-crushing hits directed at Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Fresh off his return from an ankle injury that forced RGIII to miss multiple games, the Vikings defense has welcomed the signal caller back with not one but two plastering hits.
The first of which came on a scramble to the outside where Griffin, readying himself to throw was hist from the side/behind and driven into the ground.
That looked bad enough but just a few minutes later the Minnesota Vikings defense swarmed the quarterback yet again, this time on a busted play. With Robert Griffin attempting to break the incoming rush, the quarterback flushed himself out of the pocket and looked as if he was going to run. He quickly changed his mind with defenders tailing him and gave himself up by sliding. It wasn’t quick enough for Minnesota though as a linebacker unloaded onto the former first-round pick, drawing a much deserved penalty flag on the play.
Had the defender not gone so hard into RGIII once he began his slide it’s likely he wouldn’t have picked up the penalty but he clearly unleashed too much power in his attempt.
