Sammy Watkins Played Through Broken Ribs
By Hayden Kane
Buffalo Bills‘ wide receiver Sammy Watkins played through broken ribs in the first month of his rookie season in the NFL.
The Buffalo Bills gave up an awful lot to draft wide receiver Sammy Watkins with the no. 4 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. They did not get much return on that selection in their first few games this season, but Watkins has come on with huge production in the last month or so.

So what was wrong with Watkins at the beginning of the season? Maybe it was the difficulty of that initial transition to the NFL. Maybe it was the struggles that inevitably come when EJ Manuel is your quarterback. Not to be overlooked, however, is a report from Jason La Canfora on Sunday morning.
Watkins was playing through broken ribs in September:
"Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins could put on a strong push in the second half for rookie of the year honors, especially now that he’s feeling much better in recent weeks after playing the early part of the season with broken ribs, according to league sources.Watkins has played through the rib injury, though it did hold him back at times. His ascent in recent weeks has been at least in part due to his improving health."
Of all the potential hindrances to Watkins’ production in the early parts of the season, I am going to take the liberty of putting broken ribs at the top of the list.
Watkins has 38 receptions for 590 yards and five touchdowns so far in his rookie campaign.
