Today Aramis Ramirez did his part in accepting his side of the mutual option with the Milwaukee Brewers to return in 2015 on a one year, $14 million MLB contract.

The Milwaukee Brewers will not be looking for a third basemen this offseason. After exercising their half of the mutual option on Aramis Ramirez last week, the talented third basemen did the same today. He will be back manning the hot corner for the Brewers in 2015 for $14 million.

With Ramirez exercising his portion of the option as well, the deal makes a lot of sense for both sides. Although 2014 wasn’t a season Ramirez will look back on and smile, he was still a respectable third base option. The Brewers and Ramirez have to feel good about the way this played out.

Hitting .285 with 15 home runs for the Brewers, Ramirez did more than enough to stake a hold to the hot corner. Ramirez also only gets a one year deal with the Brewers, so the risk is relatively low for the ball club. Should Milwaukee have decided to buy him out, it would have cost them $4 million.

Considering that Aramis Ramirez is now 36 years old, it would have likely been a struggle to find a contract offering anything more than a year or two, and likely would have not come in the $14 million range.

At this point, Ramirez gets to stay in Milwaukee for at least another year, and does so with a contract that should be plenty rewarding for him as well.

Since coming to Milwaukee, he has hit .291 and has an ops of .834. He has also racked up 369 home runs. With 17 big league season under his belt, retirement is likely looming for Ramirez. Look for him to help Milwaukee try to make a strong playoff push is 2015 or move on to a contender for the few remaining years in his career.
