starts. That is all SP Tsuyoshi Wada had to impress the Chicago Cubs. Apparently, he made a good enough impact in those 13 starts to net himself a new deal with the team.

Last winter, the Cubs took a calculated risk in signing the 33 year old lefty to a minor league contract. Now, he is set to make $4 million in 2015, with an additional $2 million in incentives. Last season, he bounced back from Tommy John Surgery that had prevented him from pitching for the organization that originally signed him, the Baltimore Orioles.

Cubs Beat Writer Carrie Muskat confirmed the news on her Twitter page earlier today.

Last season, Wada went 4-4 with a 3.25 ERA and 57 K in 69.1 innings pitched. He joins a team full of young homegrown talent that many feel will have a serious chance to contend for a playoff spot in years to come. This young group includes MVP candidate Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro, Chris Coghlan and rookie Jorge Soler.

Jake Arrieta and Kyle Hendricks both posted sub 3.00 ERAs last year as well. And though they have lost Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, the addition of Wada gives them a solid “end of the rotation” guy. If Travis Wood can rebound from a disappointing 2014 campaign, this team could give the NL Central headaches all year. Factor in Joe Maddon, the man who saved baseball in Tampa Bay, and you have a formula (on paper at least) for success.
