After struggling during four quarters of football, the San Francisco 49ers had one job. Punch the pigskin in from one-yard out and claim victory over the St. Louis Rams as the game clock experienced.
It seemed easy enough given the amount of talent on the 49ers roster. They could give it to long tenured running back Frank Gore. There was also promising rookie rusher Carlos Hyde. Hell, they could even give it to quarterback Colin Kaepernick which is exactly what they did.
Only problem? Kaepernick had the ball knocked out of his hands as he reached over the goal line to score. The play was reviewed and the official call stood – it was a fumble.
Somehow the St. Louis Rams escaped with the most absurd of victories while the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick were in disbelief.
The signal caller understandably still isn’t over the botched play as he ‘knows’ he scored the game-winning touchdown.
“I know I crossed the line,” Kaepernick said, via CSNBayArea.com. “Yeah, I did bobble the snap, but regardless.”
So how does Colin Kaepernick know that he scored the touchdown? He said he saw it himself as he’s positive the ball crossed the line.
While that’s possibly true, Kaepernick’s knowledge of scoring doesn’t reflect in the standings as the heartbreaking play put yet another significant damper on the San Francisco 49ers early season struggles.
Multiple times we’ve seen San Francisco’s offense sputter during the second half of a game though Sunday’s tilt saw the 49ers have trouble for the entire game. Clearly some changes need to be made as there is far too much talent on the 49ers roster to be a .500 team through the first half of the season.
San Francisco sits at 4-4 after losing two straight.
