Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wants to become an “icon” and doesn’t want to be franchise tagged this offseason.

For months the Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver Dez Bryant have reportedly been speaking about a contract extension yet no deal has been struck.

Part of that could be due to the Cowboys’ salary cap situation (which isn’t exactly envious) while some of it can likely be attributed to Dez Bryant’s desire to get paid.

The wideout recently joined Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports representation and has visions of becoming a household name under “The Roc”.

"After hiring Jay Z’s Roc Nation to represent him and hopefully help him become “an icon,” Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant said he is willing to discuss a contract extension during the season “if it’s right.”"

If Bryant and the Dallas Cowboys aren’t able to find middle ground on a new deal it’s possible he could be handed the franchise tag though that’s something Dez Bryant wants to avoid.

“I’m going to tell you the God’s honest truth: I’d be highly disappointed,” Bryant stated of the Cowboys possibly using the franchise tag on him. “I’d be highly disappointed.”

While the franchise tag will pay Dez Bryant handsomely, most players like to avoid such because it’s nothing more than a one-year deal. Such prevents a long-term deal which is likely to include a mass amount of guaranteed money to a Pro Bowl talent like Bryant.

For what it’s worth, Dez Bryant suggests he didn’t sign on with Roc Nation because of his upcoming contract but rather because he wanted their backing for marketing purposes. Roc Nation represents a handful of major athletes across professional sports which now includes the Dallas Cowboys’ wideout.
