Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo could miss up to three months after sustaining a left shoulder injury in his club’s loss to Manchester City, according to The Telegraph‘s Mark Ogden.

The defender was carried off on a stretcher at Etihad Stadium after injuring his shoulder on a challenge on City’s Martin Demichelis during the second half.

Here is Ogden with more details on the injury assessment:

"Despite the 24-year-old posting a seemingly positive update on Twitter on Sunday evening, when he said, “Thank you for all of your messages, thank God it was nothing,” senior figures at Old Trafford confirmed on Monday that Rojo had suffered a dislocation and that efforts were still underway to assess the full extent of the damage. […]The £16m summer signing from Sporting Lisbon will be scanned and assessed by United’s medical staff today, but the centre-half can expect to be out of action for at least six weeks, even if the injury is less serious than anticipated."

Rojo’s injury is one United can hardly afford, with Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Rafael da Silva already sidelined and Chris Smalling facing a one-match suspension for Man U’s match against Crystal Palace this weekend after being dismissed against City.

Rojo could miss more time if he needs surgery, according to Ogden. If that’s the case, Man U may have to search to add more defensemen in his absence.
