Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts showed some emotions during the National Anthem before his team’s NFL Monday Night showdown with the New York Giants in week 9.

The moment when the National Anthem is performed before a big sporting event can be a spectacular one. The atmosphere created by the crowd, the levity of the game, and perhaps the stage of the player’s career can all play a role and make that moment before a game feel special.
For whatever reason or combination of reasons, the National Anthem was especially touching for Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver Reggie Wayne on Monday night. And the veteran and his teammates prepared for a nationally televised showdown with the New York Giants, Wayne was seen tearing up during a beautiful performance of the National Anthem.
People look, oftentimes too hard, for connections to athletes. Whether in a positive or negative light, they will seek common ground with somebody who is famous and in the spotlight.
That exercise varies in its usefulness, but it can be pretty cool to know that those goosebump-inducing moments before a big game can affect the players themselves the same way that they might a sentimental fan.
